Been thinking about this - bass players usually stand pretty still and just hold it down while everyone else struts their stuff.
Which bass players would you say have great stage presence? Links to youtube videos of course would be good to see! |

Dave LaRue always makes it look so easy and as though he's having the time of his life.
Rudy Sarzo has a stage charisma that is impressive as well.
If there is an opposite to stage presence...a stage presence vacuum / void if you will, it's John Myung from Dream Theater; granted, he's got his hands full, but man-O-man is he BORING to watch!

When you had Daltrey and Townshend jumping all over the place, and Moon going crazy, it was such a contrast that it gave him presence.

The Ox was one of the coolest bass players of all time and he did it by standing there and looking a bit bemused or even bored by all the chaos.

| | Banned | | Join Date: Aug 2010 Location: Cohasset, Massachusetts | | | I think everyone has their own idea of what stage presence is. To me, it's the ability to be in command of the song even if you are not the most animated person in the band. John Entwistle hardly moved but his ability to play the way he did gave him great stage presence. Some people are not comfortable moving around and when they try to do it, they look like they are forcing it and it looks awkward. I would rather see a band full of great musicians who don't move around much than a bunch of people who run around but can't play very well. |

Nikki Monninger! Nothing like a cute chic jumping up and down with a little dress and a bass! |

How do you maintain diginity, poise and power when everyone around you is as insane as you? Stand there and command attention and respect without ever asking for it. He was the man. |

He may not move as much as some, but, you KNOW he's there and in complete command of his instrument and the song. To me, that's definitely stage presence. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
