after seeing Rush as the only arena act I will go to in the last couple of years, I have noticed that the sound guys in arenas pump too much extra "ambient bass" into the overall mix to make things sound "bigger" in an already echoy- arena. and I feel like this is why we can't hear the bass guitar itself anymore. when I left the Columbus Rush show at Nationwide, the only memory of the overall sound I had was a low level huuuuuummmm from too much reverb and bass eq-ing on the synths, and larger drums. GEt rid of that crap amd let the arena acoustics do their own thing to make it sound big
..and I think it would be very awkward to see Geddy playing a 5...he doesn't need that

Drove all the way from NC to see it, enjoyed the show, but disappointed in the mix. But it was the case again when I saw them in Charlotte. Much better acoustics when I saw them in DC at a pavilion show in Sept. Saw Depeche Mode at the same venue a few years ago. Loud, no bass player, but great mix - the open walls must let the sound "breathe" a little more there.
Yeah, Geddy uses his sunburst Jazz for drop tuning, so no need for a 5 for him! |

I was not impressed with the sound of one of the very high end Fodera's on the recent Vic Wooten band's tour. Seriously. said man, I should have let you borrow that old ash maple Lakland of mine with the Aeros in it, its got it all. It could have been the sound mix yes, but when you slap a 10K bass and it dont sound nearly as good as the de riguer 70's slap sound, something's wrong. About 9K worth of wrong imho.
Fancy looking, but a dead performer in bed sort of thing. Since I dont value bling....

i loved owen biddle with the roots, that short scale 6er (i suspect with flats?) was great.
their new-ish bassist, i dont know what he plays, but i never find his sound particularly nice. not live atleast, i've seen them with him twice.
and, maybe its a little too late, but can someone loan paul mccartney the money for a fender? |

And I seriously doubt that Joe could be influenced by money at this point.
