how could i forget billy sheehan! definitely a favorite bassist of mine. though i usually only hear him tapping while soloing. I'm thinking more in a chordal/melodic usage in for main part of a song instead of shredding...

John Myung I think does a good job of mixing wicked fast tapping (Metropolis) with slower and more groovy tapping (Scarred)

If you hav'nt already then check out Jeff Hughell from the band Brain Drill. Very acquired taste as its as brutal and over-the-top as death metal currently gets but I've never seen a tapping technique like his and at such ludicrous speed, fun to watch!

I also love Michael Manrings tapping style.

hahahaha yes indeed I have seen brain drill. it's pretty hard to tolerate but still very impressive.

I'm currently in love with manrings tone but the 2 cds of his I downloaded had WAY to much saxaphone...

So, this isn't bass tapping either, but the bassist is stellar by any means and there is tapping going on elsewhere.

I hear you about Michael Manring and the smooooth saxophone. Nevertheless, he is one of the few bass players who make tapping sound like more than just a bad piano player! His peice, Watson and Crick, of of Drastic Measure (be prepared for smooooth Oboe on this album, let alone sax) is far and away, the most interesting, and musical tapping composition I have ever heard. There are clearly 3 or 4 countermelodies going on at once throughout most of the song, it is just amazing.
