Bass tone on Bryan Adam's "Reckless"

This is THE tone I'm looking for. So what word or words would you use to describe it? Here it is:

If you want to add how I can achieve it, even better.

I see a p-bass, when i put my headphones on i can hear some edge to the higher notes, so maybe a pick?

It sounds like a Tube head of some sort

Well then that's what I'm looking for! Still haven't been able to dial in anything like that though. Maybe I need to pickup a P-bass as I have a Fender jazz currently.

Listened to botht he vid and you're myspace page.

"Chip On Your Shoulder" sounds pretty close to me. Maybe a shade less low end and a shade more top. Not a lot of either, though.

Cool tunes on myspace, BTW. And a great name!

His tone seems a bit more, I can't find the words, compressed? tight? but warm...

Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it!

Yeah, I think he's compressed some too. I'd certainly expect that from a pro performance. Especially around the mids.

A P bass (possibly hot-rodded?) run through a very high-end audio processing chain, and played with a pick is my guess here.

If you like that tone, you'd probably love a Modulus Quantum bass with the Bartolini setup. I know I do. I get bags of solid low-end punch, and as much or little high-end as needed, with plenty in the middle available at the turn of a knob.

here's an article about the recording of "Run to you" by Sound on Sound-
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul0...racks_0706.htm

DI on the bass plus a mic'ed Ampeg SVT.

I like the bass sound on "I need somebody".

It sounds like a real fat P-Bass through an Ampeg. Reminds me a little of my old Kramer Pioneer (P-Bass) after I installed a Duncan Quarter Pound P-Bass pickup. Definitely a rock sound - not alot of nuance there. I'd venture to say that the tone was rolled off a hair on the bass, but what do I know?
With a J-Bass, you might get closer by switching to a humbucking pickup, like a Dimarzio J or whatever, in the neck position. That would certainly fatten the bottom up and give you more of a Precision-like voice.

I just replaced my dead roundwounds with D'Addario chrome flatwounds and it really fattened up the bottom end quite a bit!

judging from the tone on "Somebody" and "one night love affair" where the bass is exposed on its own in parts, I reckon it's actually a jazz, or a PJ setup. definitely the hollowness of 2 pickups there.

His current bassist plays a P bass mostly and I know he likes the TI flats..
