Bassist for "Burning Love" by Elvis Presley

I absolutely love the song, the vibe and movement. I also find the bass line to be the quintessential one for my tastes.

Do you know who recorded this tune in the studio?

Scheff?
maybe Dunn?

I'm not sure who played it originally but I have to agree, it's a pretty cool bass line. I'm actually in a band right now where I'm playing the bass line and singing the lead vocal, although I don't think I'm doing either nearly as well as the original recording... not easy.\

I especially like the little lick he does going into the third verse.

If i'm correct, that would either be Jerry Scheff, Duke Bardwell or Bob Moore (Scotty Moore's brother, I think).

Jerry Scheff's son Jason has been Chicago's bassist for many years; he replaced Peter Cetera...

Emory Gordy probably should have his own thread, I love his work with Rosanne Cash and Emmylou Harris!

Help me out, please!

Which back issue of Bass Player Magazine covered Emory Gordy Jr and told his story behind the Burning Love bass line?

I've lost the issue or just can't find it.

If I remember correctly, Gordy never intended for that bass line to be in the original recording. It was his "spur of the moment" improvised bass line for the first take.

He considered the bass line to be excessive and he thought it'd never be accepted and expected that he would have to re-do the bassline. For him, it was nothing more than an out take effort.

How surprised he was that the producer went with that bass line! Emory never intended it to be the one for the final take.

Well, that's what I remember reading but I'm not sure. I want to try to find that old article in Bass Player.

Please help me out.

Thank-you TBers.

As I posted in the Emory Gordy thread which has the same question. I don't recall the issue, but it was a L O N G time ago, and I think it was in Guitar Player, predating Bass Player's inception.

It was only 2 or 3 years ago when that article came out. I have it, and that's exactly the story Emory told.
