What is the name of the bassist of Crazy Horse? I just stumbled upon this live clip of Neil Young performing with them, and I've only heard Neil Young live with Rick Rojas (also a monster of a player).

Maybe it's just me or the audio mix, and I'm certainly not knocking his playing, but does it sometimes sound like his timing is a little loose in spots? He's playing some great lines though.

Hmm, well I can point out one time where he misses an E, but other then that I think he's plays really tight. Maybe it's because Neil's music is very improvisational, you know, often the live songs are way longer than the original recordings and he never plays the same solo alike. What I'm trying to say is I think he's following the mood of the song with Neil, as it was in that exact moment they played it =)

Oh don't get me wrong, I wasn't suggesting he's out a lot of the time, quite the opposite, just it appeared to me in more than a couple spots a note was not as on as it could be, but maybe I'm just hearing things.

That aside, it's a brilliant performance.

And don't get me wrong either, but I'm pretty sure I heard mistakes, sort of like he had to catch up in a couple of places, I know that's not a "good explanation" and I don't claim to be an expert, (theres enough of them around) but I know what I hear, and you know how the saying goes??....."The Guitarist or Keyboard or,..can make a mistake, and are likely to get away with it, but as soon as the bass player stuffs up, everybody knows".....I'm sure I heard mistakes, and,... I could be wrong! (not) and as for the tone, I think he had a Precision Bass, how couldn't you get a good tone. ?

It's good to hear a bass nice and clear in a live recording like that...I've been to see bands in the last few years that were in the mix I couldn't hear my favorite parts.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Talbot only plays for Young, and has only had the 1 gig. I remember reading somewhere that he works construction when Neil isn't working with Crazy Horse.

Yes, it is Billy Talbot, the (only) Crazy Horse bass player. Rojas didn't play with Crazy Horse, but did (and does) play with Neil.
