No, not Sam Cooke's recording. My wife just hipped me to a recording of "Cupid" by The Spinners because of the very cool bass line.
It was released in 1980, apparently by Atlantic records. Anyone KNOW who it is?
John

| | | | I have that LP stashed at my mom's...I will try to think about looking at the credits(if any) on my next visit.
I do know I overdid it on those cool little slide thingees between D-E-D (G-string) & A-B-A (D-string) which leads back to the D chord...or sumtin like that.

John | Most of those Spinners tracks were cut in Philly. Bob Babbitt played on Rubber Band Man and some other Spinners tracks after moving to Philly...I know for fact. If not Babbitt...possibly Jimmy Williams.

Babbitt's one I hadn't thought of, having forgotten he did Philly stuff after Motown shut down in Detroit.

Appreciate the help!
John

| | | | The album featuring the "Cupid" medley, "Love Trippin" was one of The Spinners early post Thom Bell productions. Babbitt played on most of the Thom Bell stuff...so it's hard to say. Also not mentioned as a possible is Ronnnie Baker of MFSB. |

Another studio bassist from later in the MFSB era after Ronnie Baker was Michael Foreman. ...curious to see if anyone can zero in.

I think Michael Zager produced the post Thom Bell projects. |

IIRC, Babbitt is listed as bassist for "Games People Play"...

Thanks for the question, JTE.

Previously, on TB- Francisco Centeno | I was just listening to the first two Angie Bofill albums last week and remembering how much I dug Centeno's playing.
