Cool Bassist Frontmen

Sign in to disble this ad
Who are some bassists who are also the frontman of their band? Here are some I can think of. Let me know who I missed.

Paul McCartney-The Beatles, Wings
Roger Waters-Pink Floyd
Lemmy-Motörhead
Geddy Lee-Rush
Tom Araya-Slayer
Jack Bruce-Cream
Peter Steele-Type O Negative
Greg Lake-ELP
Aimee Mann-Til Tuesday
Steve Kilbey-The Church
Richard Page-Mr. Mister
Peter Cetera-Chicago
Sting-The Police
Kip Winger-Winger

P.S.-Gene Simmons doesn't count. You could say technically Paul and Roger don't either, but eff you!

I don't how I forgot Les. And yes to what Commreman said. Steve Harris, although an awesome bassist and the principal songwriter of Iron Maiden, is not the frontman because he does not sing.

He sings, but rarely in a microphone (other than backing vocals) - thank God. I've got a couple of bootlegs from the early days were he filled in on vocals when Di'Annos voice broke down. Let's say were all glad he has stuck with his bass and let others do the lead vocals!

Jeff Tweedy was sort of a "co-frontman" in Uncle Tupelo, and he played bass for much of that band's lifetime.

Does Mike Watt count? He shared frontman duties in The Minutemen and Firehose, but has been the lead vocalist in plenty of projects since.

Kim Gordon was the primary bassist for much of Sonic Youth's career (Mark Ibold now covers the low end for them), and she sang lead on a significant percentage of the band's music.

Lots of folks think of Ric Ocasek as the frontman for The Cars, but bassist Benjamin Orr sang lead on a couple of their biggest hits.

Another co-frontman: Clint Conley from Mission of Burma, who split vocal duties with guitarist Roger Miller
