I don't know who he is, but right after I first saw the documentary I learned this bass line. So I agree, he does some cool stuff. Nice tone too

I believe that was Alan Spencer on bass at Woodstock. Chris Stainton went from bass to keys for that show and tour...

It Alan Spenner. He is my number one underared bass players of all times. He was, among others, Mr. Muppet and Mr. Superstar.

Misspelled - my bad. I was unaware ('til just now, after looking it up on Wiki) that he'd passed at 43 years young. AND I was unaware of his work with some others. He truly left his mark.

Yep. Definitely Alan Spenner. He also played on Frampton Comes Alive (The New York tracks -- Not the San Francisco ones) and the soundtrack for Jesus Christ Superstar. He gets my vote for number one underrated bassist of all time.

Not to take anything away from Alan Spenner, but he only played on a couple of the Frampton Alive! tracks. The rest were all performed by Stanley Sheldon.

edit whoops i thought it was Joe but it maybe Murray Head is singer.

i recall the bass sounding differently through real juke box tube amp/speaker... very driving sound.

Spenner's work on Jesus Christ Superstar was incredible. He had this great 70's semi-improvisational thing going on, and could really, really groove.
