Bassist Luther Vandross

So i just got the album Luther Vandross from Luther Vandross. At first i didn't notice but the bass part is all slapped!!!! And it sounds awesome!!!!
Who is this bassist ive never encountered before?

it did remind me of marcus first, but then i thought that his sound was a lil' different than normal

He did win a grammy for a song he wrote for Luther did he not?

Marcus' website has a full discography to the point of everything he has been involved with playing, writing, producing, etc. so have a look on there and I am sure it will tell you.

Definitely Marcus Miller! Luther still woulda been a star but Marcus Miller's songwriting and playing made Luther a huge star!

I remember the first time I heard Never Too Much on the radio before Luther hit, I knew it was Marcus from seeing him play in NY so much. Those two go together like Joni & Jaco, perfect pairing of bass and voice.

It's Marcus. Marcus co-produced a lot of Luther's material with him on the first 5 or so albums. They knew each other from when they were recording tons of jingles and various other studio dates in the very early 80's. They also both toured with Roberta Flack in the late 70's.
