Bassist that made Ric famous:

Who, in your opinion, made Rickenbacker as famous as they are today?

Surely Ric's didnt catch on and sell like hot-cakes since day one of production. They had to start somewhere, right?

Paul McCartney mainly... I would also think Chris Squire and Geddy helped it a lot.

Although Roger McGuinn wasn't a bass player, he did play a Ric guitar with the Byrds which IMO were one of the most influential bands of the mid 60's - early 70's.

In the R&B world, Leon Sylvers and Rick James. I think Rickenbacker were doing guitars for a long time before they started doing basses.

Paul,Chris, and Geddy certainly. Also Roger Waters used one in the early days before he switched to the P. Lemmy, also. I think Cliff Burton used one also.

John Entwistle used one for a while in the 60's, which is what inspired Chris Squire to use one. But I really think McCartney put Rickenbacker on the map.

As far as guitar players go, add John Lennon to the influential, and a bit more well known.

When I think of Ric players, Chris Squire, Paul McCartney, and Geddy Lee are the first ones to come to mind.

I would have to say Chris Squire and Geddy Lee. While it's true the McCartney and Enswistle both played them, they didn't do so as exclusively as Geddy and Chris, who still plays one till this day. Rickenbacker even put out a Chris Squire signature model quite some time ago.

I think of Squire and Maca. I seem to remember some "new wave" bands using them. The Jam, Joe Jackson's bass player. (Great BTW). In my circles I don't see them though. The only way I would know they are popular now is by reading posts on TB. Personally I've never thought the playability and looks were that appealing. No offense to those who enjoy them. Just not my thing. But I appreciate those who wave their banner and make music with them.

Pete Quaife used a Rickenbacker when he was in the Kinks.

If Rogue had been available then and pre-Sir Paul had used a Rogue bass, would it have put Rogue on the map?

Wait, never mind.

When I think of Ric players, the name that IMMEDIATELY jumps to mind is Lemmy. I have to stop and think for a second to get any of the others.
