Never listened to these guys before, but thought this is something people should know about.

I just heard about this. Never really got into the band, but still hits very close to home. This happened in Chicago, my friend is telling me about it right now. Unbelievable.

Hearts and prayers are with you, Matthew. Heal strong!

I saw these guys at Projeckt Revolution with my daughter a couple of years ago. They really stood out, based on their enthusiasm and professionalism. I'm a semi old guy, and I liked them! Matthew has my prayers. This kid is a hero.

I hope he's ok but realistically it wasn't a very smart thing to do. Thats what "911" is for.

cops in chicago are pretty good when they're called - the problem is there isn't enough of them cruising around the streets to prevent something like this from happening - especially in a relatively "safe" neighborhood.

but yes, I agree, he should've at least dialed 911 before he decided to step in so maybe some of the beating could've been prevented.

I tend to disagree. It sounds like the victim was in imminent danger, he made a judgment call to try and intervene.

I'd hope someone wouldn't simply sit there with their hands in their pockets watching me get attacked for several minutes while the cops come -- had I been the victim.

This is so sad. He is a true hero. Any man that would just call 911 and not try and help is not a man. Are there any reports about if they have caught the guy?

T how is that besides the point? the response time in chicago is horrible. the last time i saw someone call 911 when they were trying to avoid being attacked on the L, i was on the other side of the platform the cops NEVER came while i was there & he was on the phone w/ 911 the entire time. the guy ended up getting away after dodging back n forth between turnstyles before finally getting behind a full length one he could keep closed. the police are never going to ever stop an ongoing crime unless you are extrememly lucky with timing.

I just posted to his website to get in touch with MusiCares about his medical bills.
http://www2.grammy.com/musicares/
If you all can pass that on to his family in any way, please do so.
Some friends of mine just buried a beautiful lady in Texas who was shot and killed by her boyfriend who then turned the gun on himself.

The MTV article said that there was an arrest made by CPD about the case.

I can remember when I bought my first bass sitting around trying to learn my one and only Madina Lake album. This hits me hard.

He's in my prayers, thoughts, and playing. Puts a bit of faith in humanity back into me.

I don't consider calling 911 "sitting with your hands in your pockets". I'm not saying he should've looked the other way (I hope no one is confusing my position with that). I just don't think it was the best way to handle the situation (for obvious reasons) IMHO.

We need wore facts before flaming each others morals, IMO.

We don't know if Matthew's judgment was impaired. One article I read said that he was on his way to get a drink when he witnessed the assault.

I'd also like to know if the woman is going to press charges.

F****** sad situation that happens all to often.
