I searched & didn't see this posted yet...

Bassist Mark Smith was found dead in his London apartment Monday, Nov. 2, when he failed to turn up for a gig. The 49-year-old made a career out of playing as a session and touring musician for popular acts such as Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Robbie Williams and David Gray. The cause of death is currently unknown.

Check the link for the full story.
I personally have never heard of him until now, but I'm putting this up here for anyone who did.

R.I.P.

It has been a sad day for me as earlier today I learned that Mark Smith died unexpectedly last month. When I was first getting started in the London scene, Mark was a peer who subbed for me when I played for Morrisey Mullen and I grew to become friends with this very mild mannered bassist who got very little recognition for his amazing playing.

He is known mostly for his pop contributuions, but was a fantastic Funk/Fusion player; most notably with the Jazz Sluts.

I have lost touch with many of the old faces on the scene and just stumbled across this information on the net today. To add to the sadness, my teacher of ten years Charlie Banacos died as well.

Peace

Joe

It could be worse. Your wife could work for hospice. Then you can hear about the occasional 35 year old who has done nothitng abusive in their life but has cancer and is leaving behind a husband, a 16 year old, a 12 year old, and an 8 year old.
