Bassist in Michael McDonald Christmas show

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone see his special this year? It was on Comcast on demand and was a Michael McDonald Christmas special.

MM was great as usual, and so was the band. The guy on bass (never saw him before) was playing what I think was a Alleva-Coppolo 5 P-bass that had an unbelievable punch, clarity. like no other P-based bass I've ever heard. It was truly a great tone!

This guy was nailing it, yet played with a surprising light right hand attack. Maybe that's why everyone is so gaga over the AC basses?

If you have Comcast on demand, do yourself a favor, and check it out. It's free to boot.

I don't have even the slightest clue. He looks something like Duck Dunn 20 years younger, with the moves similar to Jimmy Johnson

"Yet"? As if "heavy attack" = "punch"?

I'm sure they're fine instruments. But instead, maybe everyone should be gaga over this bass player's excellent technique...

Yes, In my experience, usually punch is associated with attack, to a large degree.

Again, yes, my point exactly was his technique was such that he was able to have such a clear and punchy tone from a pickup style that usually does not elicit that type of tone.
