ok i was really confused, i was at my friends house and hes like balls deep into evanesance, and i noticed the bassist was playing a musicman. im not totally sure, but its what it looked like, and i was wondering if anyone who knows, do they play funk or like.... anything not related to hard rock? it just struck me as odd that a emo rock bassist should be playing a musicman.
i really cant stand listening to them, they annoy me. just for the record. |

In any case, the list of rock players who use a Stingray is almost too long for this forum. It's not just a funk bass and it never has been. They've been used by everyone from Blue Oyster Cult to Chevelle to Dream Theater (I know he plays a Bongo 6er now, but on When Dream and Day Unite, he played a Stingray which he had added a neck pickup to).

They are fantastic for hard rock. I love Spector basses, I play fingerstyle, and I play 6-string basses almost exclusively, but you will many times catch me playing one of these on stage:
3-Band MusicMan Stingray 4-string, stainless steel strings, played with a pick.
It's just got such an aggressive tone that cuts through the mix so well, you'd be a fool NOT to play with one. That, and it's extremely light.

Every time I saw Will Boyd playing with them, he was playing some kind of ESP. The last guy playing with them as the band was disintegrating most likely played something else. But when I think of Evanescence and basses (which isn't often) I think of ESP. Will Boyd is listed on the ESP Artists Roster.
