Bassist and the nicknames

Sign in to disble this ad
I realised that bass players are always more likely to have nicknames than any other positions in the band:

Michael "Flea" Balzary-RHCP (no we don't know who he is)
Dave "Pheonix" Farrell-Linkin Park
Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu-KoRn
Jason "Cone" McCaslin-Sum 41
Ryan "Ry-Know" Martinie-Mudvayne

some of them are from bands though. But then alot more bassist go with their nicknames rather than surnames than guitars, vocalist and drummers.

"Johnny Crab" thanks to a P.O.'d roadie giving me a chewing out that was deserved in the 1980's.

More recently modified to "Starboard Johnny" at this gig:

I'm Hooters.

My last name is Huettner (pronounced Huttner), but it's always mispronounced Hyootner, or Hootner. And that's close to Hooters, so there it is.

Also Hooty-hoo! or El Hooterino, if you're not into the whole brevity thing...

To be fair, this one's legit and not nearly a "stage name" or gimmick as some others in the thread: Geddy's of Polish decent, and his Mother's accent turned "Gary" into "Geddy". Having Grandparent, Great Aunts and Uncles, and generally older family of similar Eastern European backgrounds (Hungarian, in my case) I can absolutely confirm that a heavy accent will do this.

...however, I myself I have only gotten the nickname "Pie F***er" when an artist I was backing around '99-'00 thought I looked like Jason Biggs from "American Pie". I wholeheartedly dispute this.
