Not the Elvis version..the original Tony Joe White version. I have googled and not coming up with anything. Anybody know for sure, and any links to info on it? Much appreciated.

I'd like to guess that it was Tommy Cogbill, the guy who played Funky Broadway, Chain of Fools and the like. But I really don't know.

According to AllMusicGuide Norbert Putnam played bass on Polk Salad Annie. It's worth going there to check out his credits - decades of monster albums with Elvis, Joan Baez, the Monkees, Waylon Jennings, Dan Fogelberg, Country Joe McDonald, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Jimmy Buffett, the list goes on and on. Does anyone know more about this guy? I don't know why I haven't heard more about him!

Trivia time! Did you know that it's actually "Poke Salat"? The album cover ever says "Polk Salad Annie" but there's no such thing as Polk Salad. Just a Southern thing, I guess.

I would have guessed it was Cogbill, too. Thanks for straightening that out.
