I think there should be a bassists with Cerebral Palsy club so that if there's anyone besides me who has it, we can use eachother for inspiration and share stories about how it has affected our playing.
I have a mild/moderate form of it that affects my left side as a whole, weakening my fretting hand and limiting mobility/independent movement of fingers on that hand.

I'm no Jaco/John Myung/Insert Your bass God * here* but I'm pretty sure that from lack of concrete practicing & lessions than anything else.
#2 ( ) and I think there are at least a few others out there, but a "Disabled Bassists Club" as far less of a limiting group might be better in the long run. |

RIP John Norman. |

You're only limited by what your mind convinces you you can't do!

| | | i have CP almost exactly like the OP, except there is almost NO independent dexterity between the fingers on my left hand. it's really bothered me most of my life, the fact that what i wanted to do most (play guitar) was compromised right from the get go. I can't form ANY chords with my left hand. so, i had to resort to playing lefty, so my left hand could hold the pick (which it can, fairly well). it's a strange thing to fret with the VASTLY dominant hand, it has to 'wait' for the picking hand. i'm sure it's usually the exact opposite. at some point i developed an interest in playing bass, for one because the spacing of the strings is much more comfortable, and for two because Paul McCartney is a god. i've just acquired my new Birdsong bass, and as far as things go, i couldn't be happier. it's truly the nicest instrument i've ever seen and/or owned. play on playas. |
