C'mon, time to give the drummer some love.
What players do you consider lucky bastards to be teamed up with their drummer? |

If you look at a lot of drumming legends, they were often half of a legendary rhythm duo - Bonham/JPJ, Moon/Entwistle, Peart/Lee, Baker/Bruce.
Maybe drummers are only as good as their bassists? Yeah, I'd like to think that . |

But, every-time I hear DMB I wonder how they would sound with say Chuck Rainey anchoring the low end. Beuford is a monster, perhaps the best drummer in pop in a long time, but Lessard while being good, I just don't believe is at the same level in tone or uniqueness.

Sting and Stewart Copeland...wrong!
I think Alex Van Halen is a horrible drummer. There's a reason why there are so few quality VH live recordings, and it's Alex VH. Michael Anthony isn't a hotshot bassist, but he's solid and sings great harmonies. I have never seen or heard VH live where Alex didn't rush the crap out of just about every song. He's got chops but his timing is terrible and has never gotten any better.
As for Sting and Stewart Copeland, how dare you! When he was in the Police, Sting was a brilliant bassist, plus he wrote all the songs that were any good. I think Sting is one of the greatest bassists of all time, and I'm always shocked when I hear a bass player saying he's not that good. Had it not been for Sting, the Police would have had Stewart's and Andy's songs featured, and their songs are pretty terrible and nobody would have ever heard of either of them.

Stefan's certainly not flashy but much of the subtle work he does is powerfully tied to Carter Beauford's amazing work. The sounds they get as a band wouldn't be the same without Lessard's dead notes and tight rhythm.
Definitely not meaning to misunderstand, but there's a lot to Stefan's playing and it's difficult to pick up on the first times through a DMB record. The well-recorded live stuff and almost everything from Busted Stuff is where I see him shine the most.
I'm with you completely on Beauford.

Here's one from Leftfield...Steve Severin/Budgie from Siousxsie and the Banshees. Severin has been an influence for me even though not the most gifted bass player ever but Budgie on drums was and is amazing.

When he could stay off 'the gear' , Jimmy Chamberlain is an amazing drummer, awsome on the first two Pumpkin albums. D'arcy didn't really stand out for me, unlike James Iha. I can't think of any women bassists that made me want to play (bass that is )...possibly Tina Weymouth (who apparently tried to teach Sid Viscious the bass once

I still like their music from blink, it gives me that funny feeling inside. +44 is somewhat the grown-up version I think.
Travis is one of a kind, I think. |

However, for my own input here...lemme think. You know, if I can think of any I'll just edit them into this post, I'm stumped now, but it could be listening to Rush through my headphones that is clogging my brain. |

I think Mastodon's drummer is a lot better than their bassist. That said the bassist is the main songwriter. |

| | | | Gene Simmons......Eric Singer
Singer is one of the best rock drummers of the past 20 years, period. Gene Simmons, a bit of nice work on their first three albums aside, is a bass playing hack.
I DARE you to top the gap that is between these two.
