Bassists who do other stuff

Sign in to disble this ad
We all know about Dave Grohl doubling up as sticksman AND guitarist (he's just a show off really ) But it occurred to me that I dont really know many bassists who double up on other instruments. Well, to any decent standard anyway. Of course there is Mark King - who actually trained as a drummer, but then decided to hammer the crap out of his strings instead. And Macca is an accomplished drummer too. Mick Karn (Another bassisit who doesnt get enough press round here) is an excellent sax/clarinet player. My own bass hero JJ Burnel is actually a classically trained Spanish guitarist. (Not cool for a punk though

Any others with hidden talents? (Sting doesnt count, he's just the guy who was the school captain, got all the girls, and was the best at everything )

Former Powerman 5000 bassist Dorian Heartsong, who is actually a Berklee grad is apparently quite the doubler on the drums, doing pro-level gigs in the LA area. Based on their image, who knew?

She also played Kevin Gilbert pretty well. Now comes the part where I scream out words not suitable for TB...

Also Geddy Lee plays guitar. As shown on songs like Freewill on R30. In fact he started on guitar and went to bass

Steve Winwood also played all instruments on his 'Arc of a Diver' album. What is it with Steves, anyway? Heh heh.

John Entwistle played the french horn at some point.

Jack Bruce, cello and piano

Ben Rietveld, drums

Most of the jazz guys play piano, I guess to get arrangements down and to write.
