I'm in too. I'm a lefty in everything except for guitar, bass, drums. IMO I think what hand you are doesn't matter when you start to learn an instrument because it's all alien at first.

Hello all, I am also a lefty who plays right. It started when my dad bought me a right handed guitar not knowing the difference. I learned to play that way and the rest is history. How do I join in the group ??

Wow! So many of us.

I'm a very unusual kinda lefty. When a task calls for any significant degree of dexterity, I need to use my right hand. When strength is more important, it's the left hand's (foot/leg/etc.) job. I throw, bat, shoot in hockey, kick a ball - all lefty, but solder a wire to a pickup? Sign my name? Always righty. I air-guitar lefty at Rush concerts, but play my bass righty.

I remember when I first started, I had my bass lefty, but my teacher told my dad that he would only teach me righty, and someday, I'd thank him. So...Guy Tardo, of Niles, IL...thank you! You gave me a life-long interest, a great foundation that I've built on, and about 100 times more cool basses from which to choose!

Except choice of concerts we are brothers. My aunty forced me to learn to write right handed, very Japanese in a way. When my little brother came along they didn't force the issue and he is totally left handed. The biggest advantage was on the basketball court when I could go with either hand in a pinch.

I'm a lefty who can't even pick up a pen with my right hand...yet I play right-handed. (ODDLY ENOUGH - the singer in my band plays lefty but is actually a righty lol...what are the odds of that? I know playing righty when you're a lefty is fairly common really, but the other way round?)

It's awesome I found this club! I play bass and bowl (lol) right handed, write and eat left handed, and do most other things equally well with either hand.

Number please?

How cool is this?! Look at how many of us there are! lml

I'm a lefty but have always played right-handed. I only tried a left-handed bass once. My dad, brother, and I went shopping and my dad found the lone left-handed bass at the guitar shop. He handed it to me to try but from the word go, it felt awkward and backwards. I could not play the thing.

Could have been a lefty?

I'm all mixed up, like lots of others in this post.
Left: Throw, shoot rifles, stronger left foot (soccer).
Right: Write, eat, swing a baseball bat, golf.

When I was very young, I remember that I played air-guitar left handed. But I learned to really play right handed, because the viola was put in my hands that way when I was in 5th grade. I'm not aware of any lefties in an orchestra (playing double bass, cello, violin, viola).
I played a little bass in high school, and always played right handed. I didn't get serious about bass until college. I suspect that I might have learned to play left handed, had I never played in grade school orchestra.

Wow hey, I'll check in here. Lefty who plays bass (and guitar) right handed. I played wind instruments back in school and they required both hands to do different things. It seemed silly to me to limit instrument selection on this. Plus to me fretting is more demanding than what the right hand is doing.

Write left. Throw right. Bowl left. Scissors right (left handed ones stink). Can't even think of chopping with a knife w/o using my left hand.

I can't believe I missed this.....I am left handed. Bottom line..........I play righty because when I started 25+ years ago there were no left handed instruments in my small town music store.........I also learned how to bat and swing golf clubs, etc etc righty. However I did get to play first base alot since I was the only lefty on the team and I do bowl left handed. I can write with either hand although faster with my left.........May I have a numbere please?
