yep i cant grab a mouse with my left, remember we are leftys in a right world and we learn to do things that way, imagine you can buy even a knife for left handed people but most people dont realize that, i visit a store for leftys and i was impressed with all the leftys thing that you dont mind that exist lol

Wow, I though I was the only one. I started bass at age 13 in my school orchestra and was forced to play right handed in a section of three basses with no left handed basses available. I just adapted to that way of doing it and I've played right handed ever since. I often wonder what would have happened had I learned left handed. (other than the obvious bow wrecks in the bass section).

I'm in. Only thing in the world I do righty is play, and I'm glad. I don't have to try to find good lefty instruments.

Although I think I have weak slapping skills because my right hand can't get the slap/pop technique down... but it's getting better.

I suspect it's mostly about the ready availability of righty instruments.

Im do all things with my left, and then i learning to play guitar, i do the job as right handed, then i ones i try lefty guitar, my brain gone crazy, and sins i fine out i can only play as right handed.
but I think that cool, so i can have my dream bass without extra pay-ment, and easier to fine good basses then leftys, Im leaving in DK, there is not always good choise here

I'm almost universally lefty - aside from instinctively playing open behind a kit - and have been playing bass since my 13th b-day. My parents got me a righty bass because they didn't know lefty ones existed. I'm glad they did! I would never have been able to afford my basses otherwise

Anecdotally it seems like there are a lot of lefty-playing-righty musicians out there. Right now I have three bandmates (across two bands) who are also lefties, and all but one of them actually plays righty.

I feel like playing righty has been good for me as a musician. What you build is dependent on the tools you've got, right?

I'm a lefty who plays my bass right-handed. The only other things I do right-handed are: a) use a mouse, b) kick.

Is this an actual club? Like "Left-Handed Righty Players" or something? Or "Lefties Playing Righty"?

If it is, I'm in - but how do you tag it in the signature?

Oddly, my son is a righty and every time he picks up a guitar he turns it to the left.

I'm also a lefty who plays bass and guitar right-handed. Funny thing is, my guitar player is also a lefty who plays righty. I guess we're not as uncommon as we thought we were.

Did you know left-handed people predominately use the right hemisphere of their brain? I've heard it said that we are the only ones who are truly in our right mind.

When I was a kid first going out for little league baseball, my dad got me a left-handed ball glove since he knew I wrote with my left hand. It baffled everyone when I'd catch the ball in my glove (which is on my right hand as a lefty), then take off the glove and throw the ball with my right hand, too.

I haven't read the whole thread, but this. Playing a musical instrument is taxing on most of our extremities, plus the mental concentration required. It's not "wrong" to play a leftie bass if you are leftie, but NOT required at all. Most violinists and classical musicians play the instrument the "standard way", regardless of being a leftie or not (VERY few exceptions at all). Both arms have to work equally hard, because of coordination.

Summary: lefties, when starting out, should grab whichever bass. If I was a beginning leftie, I would pick a normal righty bass. It's equally difficult in the end.
