Bassists who use blues vocabulary in solos.

I'm sure we all can list several guitarists and horn players who are masters of The Blues when it comes to soloing, but I'm having a hard time coming up with bass players (Marcus Miller was the first one I thought of). Anyone come to mind? I'll take DB'ers too.

Let's not forget Willie Dixon, head bassist of the blues.

I'm not sure what your asking, but if your looking for blues bassist who solo, check out Johnny B Gayden! He plays on a ton of albums, but his live work with Albert Collins is very greasy. Roscoe Beck is another bassist that does some sick blues-based solos.

To me there's one obvious master of the Blues :

Charlie Mingus!

(Althiough I could name dozens of Jazz DB players who are steeped in the Blues ...)

Yeah Mingus!! Have y'all heard Haitian fight Song?

I've heard plenty of bassists that reference blues/pentatonic vocab in their solos...

Marcus
Uncle Will
Avishai Cohen

you have to get your hands on any album of his (they are really all-good)... even the ones where he's only playing piano! True magic.

Ben Allison is another freshly creative bassist/composer that tastefully references blues vocab in his tunes, check him out.
