Bassists who use effects

Sign in to disble this ad
Are there any bassists out there who uses inovative ways of using effects like how tom morello or matt bellamy use guitar effects?

can anyone link me to some bands with bassists that use effects and effect solos that are in your face?

You'd get more responses to this question in the effects forum though.

they are both into crazy noise. note, they are 2 of my favorites, but its pretty simple..

wah, whammy, floyd rose, kill switch, feedback.

bellamy also makes use of all sorts of synths, as well as a korg kaos pad. he has zvex fuzz pedal and an mxr phaser built into most of his guitars. he uses a TON of gear, so theres really no telling on some of it.

morello had an ibanez artcore full of effects (think guerilla radio) but his setup was always very minimal.

but for the most part, its creative use of those listed above.

Chris from muse uses a lot of effects too.
I think I've seen Johnny from staind with some pedal(s)
Feidly uses somthing too
Bassically every bassist I can think of uses some kind of effect in their tone

If by effects you mean a pedal on the ground, or in a rack. you'll find 80% of bassists use them, I do.

yeh, but those are all kinda layed back effects. a layer of distortion or what not.

im talking like full on in your face bass effects, much like bellamy or morello use on guitar for example

lightning bolt? not too sure on that,...

cliff burton? Steve di gorgio (kind of unsure here, he tends to use flanger or distortion to make unusual bass sounds but maybe not 'noise in your face')? Justin Chancellor (again,... pitch shifting and real dirty bass lines and feedback but most of the sonic chaos he leaves to the guitarist Adam Jones)...

looking at JMJ (can't spell his real name sorry but he has his own area here) he has a crazy board with lots of moog and boutique pedals, pretty sure if he used alot of them at once he would start getting into the sonic chaos threshold

<shameless self-promotion>

Check out the song "The Warrior's Dance" on my MySpace page: www.myspace.com/jeffmartinezbassist. Everything but the drums is bass.

</shameless self-promotion>

Also, check out a band called The Prids. their bassist, Mistina, uses a lot of effects... especially on the song "Glide Screamer".

My headphones are broken at the minute, not to mention its 3 am, so I can't really listen to it without waking the rest of my apartment up .

I much prefer Frances The Mute, actually, and I'm pretty sure he's one of the dudes making crazy noises during parts of Cassandra Gemini, but like Bedlam, I can't really listen for specific parts at this time.

One thread on the subject is enough.

No cross posting please.
