Bassists youre tired of hearing about

Sign in to disble this ad
Guys whose careers and musical contribution have just been beaten to death by online forums, bass rags, music rags, etc etc.

Ill start

Jaco and Jamerson

If I have to read about these guys one more time, I think my head will explode haha. I mean respect th heck out of them and appreiate what they did for the world of bass, but these guys have just been beaten to death (no pun intended with Jaco).

edit: This thread's purpose and meaning seems to have gotten a little OT so Im going to quote this so that everyone gets the idea of what this thread is about:

Flea. I mean, ya gotta love the guy and what he's trying to do with education, his playing with the Chili Peppers and other artists, but man, enough already!

I was having this conversation the other day with another bass player - like how many more times is Geddy Lee gonna be on the cover of Bass Player???

Cliff Burton and Billy Sheehan: two guitarists who decided one day they'd rather shred on bass.

Hey! I like JPJ, Noel Redding, Andy Hess, and other underrated bassists. They get talked about sometimes overthere.

Another one is Harris gets talked about too much

Whoa what? lol
I love Nathan's stuff. I don't think he's talked about a lot nowadays too.

It'd have to be Geddy or Flea.

And if 'Vic is avg', then what are we??

Here goes: "The Bass should be felt and not heard !", talk about being beaten to death. I started on the String Bass and this is what was always said. Without an amp and only a raised stage you did feel the bass. I did have the luxury of a PA mike etc. Now, I don't have an Upright Bass which I do miss, however I love playing LOUD and being heard . When it came to Jaco(circa 1977) I knew then that I'd never be able to keep up or sound like him. So what, I sound like me.....In Todays media market everything even bass players in great bands are overtalked about. Being a bass player, I always flip out over the drummer way before I freak out over the bass player. Take the Stones, when I first heard them (1996) I couldn't get over the sound of the drums, the bass (not Bill W)
I felt......

Cliff Burton wasn't a guitarist. He actually learnt to play bass because of his brother who died. He also wasn't a shred bassist, he was an intelligent musician. I reckon if he was still alive now he would probably be in some sort of Progressive Metal band =D
