this from an old die hard Yankee fan, who watched your team take us to school over the weekend.
As far as Bass Players....for me its how do I feel about myself as a musician, am I trying to be the best I can possibly be? Practicing, studying theory, and really contributing to the music with whoever I'm playing with. I have this very cool old jazz cat for a teacher and he tells me its about making the rest of the band sounding good, if I do that, 99% of the time I get the call back for the gig. Used to be I wanted to be the main force in the performance, trying to play better than others instead of musically with others.
Respect and being comfortable with myself and others seems to take care of everything else.

| | | | The way I see it (and this is just for me, others are different) I really don't care if I'm not front of the stage mr. look at me. Sure I do love being on stage playing for people and I get a rush off the crowd givin energy to me to give back to them. But as far as needin attention like guitards and singers (or emcee's) need I'm just not that kind of person. Hell if I wasn't gonna play bass I'd have played drums. They're even further in the back. Guess I'm comfortable with playin z bass and don't care what people think. Besides with bass you get the best of all worlds, rhythm, melody and harmony.

| | | | I dunno, I was at a gig at a pub my friend works at, standard indie rock crowd, and my friend's jazz/ soul/ hip hop collective were playing. Lots of great saxophone, keyboard and guitar solos, really funky, good response from the floor - but the one that made everyone go really nuts with cheers and applause was the slap solo. People seem to really dig funky bass. The guitar was doing all kinds of great lead, but one little fingerstyle twiddle from a bass seems to impress people more than it probably should! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
