Is the Bay Area an Overlooked hotbed of Bassists?

I was just thinking that in the seventies, both Rocco Prestia and Larry Graham developed in the Bay area. Later came Bobby Vega. I would guess Raphael Saddiq is the resident Bay area Bassman as we speak. I'm sure I'm missing lots of people. Who are some other great San Francisco/Oakland bassists?

If by "Bay Area" you mean Tampa Bay, and by "bassists" you mean me, than yes.

Phil Lesh is a great bassist in my opinion, who (along with the rest of the Grateful Dead) came from Frisco.

Any relation to renowned fusion/jazz drummer Peter Erskine?

EDIT: Googled him, he's Peter's nephew. Neat!

Not sure how many "great" bass players there are from the Bay, but there are a bunch in really really good bands and such.

Maybe he lives in both places? I was under the impression he lived in the Bay area when I met him a few years ago.
