The bedroom bassists club

Yes, I'm a bedroom player, I admit that freely. Don't know if I'll ever be anything more. When I was younger, I was too bored and lazy to do all those boring exercises like running chromatics and playing scales (although I regarded the minor pentatonic as a wonderful toy). I wanted to learn songs, dammit, and I got pretty good at learning bass lines by ear (an ability which is slowly coming back to me.)

I plan to start taking lessons soon, more technique than theory oriented (I've discovered that I have a propensity for doing bad things to my hands) although once I've learned to play without hurting myself, I do want to learn theory.

But in the meantime, I'm having a wonderful time entertaining myself, plugged into my Vox headphone amp, and really, I don't think there's anything wrong with being a bedroom musician.

So, all you bedroom players, hold your heads up high, stand and be counted.

If you're having fun playing, that's all that matters, even if the only people listening are your parrot and your pet fish.

Count me in. I'm still young so I have a chance to become less lazy and get proficient, but for now I'm lazy, busy and my schedule doesn't permit time for lessons.

i'm one (hopefully not too much longer)

i play along to my music and just riff for hours sometimes practicing slapping and popping.

i've got a few bands lined up through school though. soo many guitarists, so little bassists, it's great

but i am trying to do more theory work now. i have a book with CD and DVD and am going to try to learn scales and things which will help me playing and solo-ing and stuff (i have a good mate who's a lead guitarist and he wants bass to be heard and likes solo's, so it's awesome)

Do you go to Dunkin Donuts at Vinnin Square? If so, is it the full service one behind KFC or the mini Dunkin Donuts across the street?

I used to live next to Vinnin Square before moving to Hawaii. We were practically neighbors!

Oh. Count me in as a bedroom bass player too.

occasional +1

I do play in bands (I am in one now, although we don't jam since two months ago), but I also get long periods of bedroom playing. It's not bad, though!

I am definitely in this club!!! As long as its not in our signatures so the rest of the TB's won't know about us. I used to be in bands that gigged for years, now it's paying for kids college and surgery's and the other stuff that happens with a wife and kids.
