Ben Kenney - Are You In - 2008 version vs 2005 version... WOW

Let me start by saying that I'm a fan of Ben Kenney's style, tone, etc. I like him on guitar with the Roots as well.

I just noticed this, and thought some of you would find it interesting too.

Anyway, these are videos of the same song from the same festival, but 3 years apart.
The difference in his playing is... pretty drastic!

I definitely didn't like his playing on the 2005 version, but I liked the 2008 version, nice intro especially. His tone was also better in the 2008 version to my ears. Interesting..
P.S. Let's please not turn this into another "Ben vs. Dirk" thread....

at the very least I'd say the bass tone Ben gets on the 2008 version is much better, warmer and the overall feel of the 2008 tune just has an easier groove. At least to my ears.

I'd guess that some of the ganky-ness/biting top end tone of the 2005 version could probably be laid at the feet of the sound man for the concert.
