Harvey Brooks on 'Albert's Shuffle' accompanying
Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper on the original recording
of Super Session. Circa 1965.
Period.

That makes him the greatest in my eyes...

And Willie was a great songsmith and arranger. Kudos to that,
I was thinking more in terms of style and nuance.
In terms of experience and legend, Willie is the man.

Besides me, of course????..
One thing that I find lacking in Blues bassists is what blues guitar players already have...that totally in your face thing...
The snarl and pump and grind...not punk but over the top.
And all the hardcore blues guys are constantly busting on me, but blues is alive and if you don't put your own stamp on it you might as well go home.
Play the BLUES.Make your bass cry...you been busted as often as the guitar players and singers...make it CRY, moan, shout!!
SEE NOW ya got me goin!!!! |

An amazing live sound and this restrained feel that held back his chops until the necessary time. One of the most memorable bass performances i have ever seen. Slinky and sublime and then when the chops broke out the audience was in raptures. A total command of the blues like I have never seen since. |
