There are so many great cats in this field. Half the time, I don't even know who they are. For example, listen to the Alligator Records 20th Anniversary Collection, which is pretty common. There are some amazing players on there. Whoever was with James Cotton for the "No Cuttin' Loose" track is a great player.
For more recent material, Randy McDonald (Tommy Castro) and Greg Rzab (Buddy Guy) are a couple of other great players. |
Randy is IMHO an amazing bluesman.
I have seen him live several times with Tommy Castro and he never fails to impress me as a bassist and an entertainer.
They have a DVD out "Live at the Filmore" that never gets old.
Perhaps because I was at the show.
I spoke with Tommy about the disappearance of Randy from the band and his response was a bit odd.
I mentioned that I really missed Randy in the band and Tommy said "yea, he sure was a good dancer" Not sure what that meant. Perhaps they had a falling out.
The new guy, Scot Sutherland I believe, is no slouch either.
