IMO, Geddy is for the J what Steve Harris is for the P: He's a superb player, but he doesn't need a J-bass to be recognized. Actually, this is even truer with Geddy since he has switched basses during his career (Harris hasn't, as far as I know) and still sounds like him. In other words, I don't think his tone is a good representation of the J-bass tone. While the original bass tracks of "Tom Sawyer" and "Red Barchetta" have their notable tone differences, few can tell they were recorded with the J-bass and the Ric, respectively (I mean, without reading about it or watching this video, for instance).
Having said that, I guess I must think a lot before settling on a player as firmly as I did with Burke Shelley on the P-bass thread, but the first recording that comes to my mind as the "most authentic" J-bass tone in rock is the original version of Lenny Kravitz's " Mr. Cab Driver". Performed by Kravitz himself, as far as I understand.
