Hey guys on youtube there is a video of Kenny Garrett, Boney James, Rick Braun. and Kirk Whalum playing Always There. The bass and drums are on lock and the drummer is absolutely enjoying himself. George Duke on keys. Now this is jazz/funk. I don't know who the bass player is but he's funkin it out.

An assist for our man in Philly - nice track - a bit too "slappy" and not enough fingerfunk? Naw.

The best bass players ever for funk were any bassists in James brown's band from 1965 to 1974. He used a few. Nobody has come close to his bands.

Gary Willis, very surprised no one has mentioned him. Top player in both styles, I'm biased so I'll say the best lol.

Hadrien Feraud is one of the bassist that has taken it to a new level for funk and jazz.
