Please list your top 3 live bands. Also, since this is the bassist thread and I didn't see another thread that this would fit in, list their bass player.
Thanks! |

Ok, best ever live band performances?
Third...Dillinger Escape Plan, Liam Wilson
Second...Clutch, Dan Maines
First...Meshuggah, Dick Lovgren
Incidentally, all seen at the same venue |

Red Hot Chili Peppers (small venue, early on Mother's Milk tour in 1989);
AC/DC in the 1980's, and again in 2001; and
The Who ("Quadrophenia" tour in 1997).
But jeez, there are just so many other great ones, like King Crimson, Los Lobos, John Fogerty, Metallica (1989), The Stones, U2 (1983), Tool, Page/Plant, etc.
Based on audio recordings and video, I'd say the best live rock bands were probably The Who in their prime with Keith Moon, and AC/DC in the late Bon Scott era, both of which I missed. The Chili Peppers show I caught in 1989 was on that level, but I'm not sure they were consistently at that level, even in their prime.

3. Sarah McLachlan (Best sound I have ever heard at a live show)
2. Queen (Best combination of show and musicianship)
1. Paul McCartney ( How do you top a former Beatle?)
Honorable mention: J. Geils Band, Aerosmith, Mark Farner, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick, Tim McGraw/Faith Hill, Pre 1980 KISS
Biggest disappointment: Van Halen, Post 1980 KISS

For soundscapes/ moods it would have to be the Cure (Simon Gallup)

2. Iron Maiden Steve Harris
3. Rush Geddy Lee
4. Queensryche Eddie Jackson
5. Pink Floyd Roger Waters
6. Yes Chris Squire
7. The Who John Entwistle
The Beatles wish I was old enough to see em live!!!
All of the bands when they were in their prime could fill an arena and yes most of them are still that good today. I am a Maiden fan through and through but Tool is that GOOD!!! Too bad I never saw the Beatles I am sure they would be #1.

2: Led Zeppelin: Early 1970. Their first headline concert in North America with Vanilla Fudge
3: Eagles: Live in Melbourne. Unfortunately only seen them on DVD, still no less awesome.
4: Eric Clapton: 2006. Not sure who played bass but you know he was an incredible player.
5: k d lang: 2005 Hymns of the 49th Parallel tour. Been in love with her voice since her cow punk days. I still get shivers every time she sings.

1. Tool at a very small Club in 92 - Paul D'Amour
2. Jane's Addiction with Flea on Bass was incredible, and the stage show was sick! (had Naked Women dancing in elevated Cages on Massive Poles, and all kinds of fun gimmicky stuff)
3. Primus Live is ALWAYS a treat. - Les Claypool
4. Jesus Lizard - David Sims
5. I'm not a big Iron Maiden Fan, but Iron Maiden Live is Amazing. - Steve Harris
6. RHCP - Flea
7. Meltbanana - Rika Hamamoto
8. This Local Band called Scorpion V.S. Tarantula that I can't seem to get enough of. Must see live because their stage presence really Makes the Band. - None until recently, then - Tana Satana
9. Quicksand - Sergio Vega
10. Fugazi always better live! - Joe Lally
