Tell me about the best player you know that isnt a pro and you know him personally....
Mine is this friend whos been playing for 6years, plays fender jazzs, metal and stuff. Proficient in slapping but think its not very useful. thinks tapping is only for showing off. Hes not insanely good, just pretty good. But then again I dont know many bassists |

He's played with Rick Wakeman's British Rock Ensembe, and, last I heard, was playing bass for Take That (British boy band) on their reunion tour.
The guy is amazing, he can play any style, and watching him slap upside down was a revelation. He was a big influence on me in the early years of my playing.
EDIT: This is him: |

He is an amazingly down-to-earth guy and of course he has an amazing musical ability! I live in Birmingham and it seems that a lot of people around town are hip to who he is now because of the Allman Bros.

Also, he's always willing to teach you or help you out. A couple of times I've seen him in the local bass shops, he's invited me to pull a bass down and play. Learned some neat tricks for playing Stanley Clarke stuff off him! |

| | | | My town (like most others) has a saerious shortage of bassists, so I'm the best one I know simply cause I'm the only one I know. I don't mean to brag though. I'm good theory and technique-wise, but my ears really stink.

His command of the fingerboard is simply astounding. He plucks fluidly w/ 3 fingers, as naturally as you could possibly imagine.
The runs he can assemble on a whim, just have me sit in awe & watch him play... its pretty cool. |
