Bob Ohlsson, former Motown 'super' engineer.....the man responsible for THAT sound.

Finger
- Geddy Lee
- Dirk Lance
- Stuart Zender
- Robert Deleo
- Trip Wamsley
- Jaco on fretless
Slap
- Marcus Miller
Pick
- Chris Squire
I should also comment that IMHO, Stu Hamm has one the most awful tones I`ve ever heard with his Fender Bass (in GHS albums for example). It`s hard to believe that such a great player "allows" those tones to be recorded.

Geddy Lee
John Entwistle
Lemmy of Motorhead
(wow they all play/have played ric 4001/4003's!)
Steve Harris' tone is unique, which is all i like about it - too trebly, I think. Great player though.
Jaco on fretless
Ynwgwie! (yes, he plays bass for himself)
Billy Sheehan. |

Oh man, also, "The Last Polka" is just... dayum. His lines inspire my playing like what. |

Doug Pinnick (his 12 string tone is amazing and to me a realization of how good a 12 string bass can sound)
Tim Crommerford (kicks in both Rage and Audioslave)
Eddie Jackson of Queensryche (his Spector tone on "Operation Mindcrime" and "Empire" is awesome)
Jason Newstead (really great tone added to Metallica's sound)
John Paul Jones (great warm tone in Zep and a world of cool multi string tones on his solo works)
Steve Harris (a unique tone that defined Maiden's sound)
Duff McKagen (I've always loved his tone in both GNR and VR)
Sting (great tone for many years)
John Entwistle (no one else like it)
I also thought that Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder) and Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam really had some great fretless tones that worked well in the context of hard rock, which is not always an easy thing to fit into that genre of music.
