Best tones from John myung

How do you get tones like these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJta8qGNnXw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGHXy9Fa45k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muiNqF_XJJc

oh and also his best bass tone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWaEC86WBuE <--- sickest bass tone got me into playing bass seroius.

But how does one get the buttery tone in This dying soul? is it something to do mostly with the action that makes everything flow smoothly?

I can see why he got #1 bassist on that bass magazine. Top notch

His tone on ToT is a dark growly SOB. The drums take up all the very low frequencies so basically cut those out from your eq, boost the low mids a tad, roll treble down to your liking, and pluck near the bridge. Thts what works for me when i try to cop a tone like that. Probably my fave JMX tone next to his Images and Words tone.

On FII he seems to hae a bit of dirt in his tone, and low action. JMX is a hard plucker so a lot of what you hear is him striking the strings.
