There are thousands of bassists in unsigned bands and folks doing covers on Youtube. Who do you think is the best? I am starting this with my vote for David from Deep Kick. He has a bunch of covers on Youtube but I think this is his best.

Don't have a clue if he can hold down a bass line or lock in with a drummer but by God he's got some serious talent at what he does. Quite a number of Youtubes and NAMM shows and Solos, check a few out (his Mario Bros one floors me - kinda makes one think, all that talent but why that song?) http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=jean+baudin |

I'm hearing a lot of "music store chops" for the most part. (Though I guess these days they should be called "YOuTube chops" ). I can walk down to GC in NYC and hear stuff that's comparable most any time. Beaver Felton was doing all that stuff in the early 90's. Where's he?
Lydia is great. Really musical -- though I'd love to hear her shed the Marcus Miller influence. I think she has the potential to be even better.
Wadenius is probably the best "cover" artist on YouTube.
No one mentioned Miguel. The guys devotion to Chris Squire is staggering, but he can do his own thing too. He covers dozens of Yes songs.
Hell, there are a few guys right here on TB who are great and many others who are very, very good. And of course, no one knows who fits a band situation, has good ears, or best or makes the groove feel good when playing together.
I guess this is just my little rant to say that music isn't an Olympic competition.
But feel free to check out MY Youtube videos! LOL! |
