I really don't listen to as much metalcore anymore (I tend to lean more on the punk side of hardcore), but my friend did the artwork on this, so I listened. wow, the bass solo on this song is really incredible. Kudos to Dan Briggs.

People who say there is no good metal out there today are completely out of their minds.
Likewise, people who say bass cant be heard in metal need to listen to your reference.

BTBAM is certainly one of the most important metal bands ever, within a short time they have evolved so fast, and have done a lot to change the understanding of what can and can't be done in the genre, basically by showing that nothing can't be done in the genre.

And while there were bits that ran a little too close to noodling for my tastes (that guitar lick that comes in at about a minute, and the riff at the ten minute mark being my two prime "I've heard this before" moments), I gotta say, that was pretty awesome. They took the song in a whole bunch of directions I wasn't expecting, and I really dug the Floyd-influenced section from about 2:15-5:00 (not to mention the guitar solos in the section right after that were a whole lot more tasteful than I was expecting). That riff at about 6:30 is to die for, by the way. As for the aforementioned bass solo, that kind of playing isn't really my thing, but its certainly a great display of Dan's talent.
All in all, this is definitely a lot more compelling than a lot of contemporary up-tempo metal I've been shown & exposed to. Thanks for the link, Holy War. |

I used to be into the super slow, stoner sounding stuff. It's gotten a bit boring for me lately, no clue why. I think I just like trashy sounding punk for the most part. hah. |

The whole most talented band in metal thing though is kind of silly, but they're a fantastic band nonetheless.
