"Stone Alone" graces the cover of Bass Player this month.
After watching Stones in Exile recently it was a fitting tribute and an excellent supplemental piece.I was disappointed though by the very short interview. |

I hadn't really noticed his bass lines until I subbed for a classic rock group and learned about 5 Stones tunes. And for me Bill Wyman was totally underrated, but not now. What I really like is that a lot of his lines are somewhat counter point to the guitar riff and still in the pocket, like in Satisfaction.

Oh yeah. He feels he got cheated on lots of stuff (and I believe him) because it all got credited to Jagger/Richards regardless of who did what. He even praises The Beatles for having a more democratic system whereby Ringo and George would be given credit for whatever they wrote on their own. It seems as if the Stones was and is a totalitarian system?
I love it when he says that even though they still keep in touch and send X-mas and b-day presents to each other, he would only get back with them for "one final" world event concert. He just doesn't wanna hang out with them any longer for more than a day regardless of the mega$$$$$ involved. Great interview! |

BW played some great lines in the early days... but virtually no discussion of his lines, his technique, his sound. A short and superficial piece that focuses on personality conflicts within the band. |

recorded the things that went down, I would not feel inclined
to dispute his version on things at all.

Ain't that the truth. Sadly, "our" bass magazine choices are severely limited, as any trip to B&N or a newpaper stand will attest. But, hey, any publicity is better than none at all. |
