It was widely reported to be one of his short scale Travis Beans at the time. I've read wildly conflicting interviews regarding how many of the tunes he actually played the Bean on though. My fretless (standard scale) '77 Bean used to be white back then, much like this one, but is now finished natural like the majority of TBs:
