A friend just turned me on to Birelli on Bass. I know he used to play with Jaco but I didn't think it was that great.
I never got into him as a guitar player mainly because I don't really like the Django/Gipsy style of jazz so much, but on bass....I had no idea!
Granted, it's all off Jaco's favorite licks and his style but since Jaco is not with us anymore it's really nice to see somebody doing his stuff so well. Birelli's phrases are longer and more connected than Jaco could manage in his later days. Sad that Jaco is not with us anymore, but this is a great reminder of what he gave us.
