Björn Meyer with Nik Bärtsch

Has anyone checked out Björn Meyer? I just heard him with Nik Bärtsch's Ronin on the ECM album Stoa. He has a great touch and a huge sound. Apparently the Swedish-born bassist is keeping busy with plenty of work, performing and recording with up to nine bands. One of those bands is Bazar Blá which is a Swedish folk/rock band. They use a keyed violin! Anyone check this dude out?

I've heard a live cd of those guys, maybe the same one. I was amazed at the "discipline" and subtle variations through the tunes. He has a great tone and just locks it down big time. Though not in your face, he clearly has a BIG BAG O CHOPS as well. A very cool minimalist funk modern trip theses guys are doing.

I heard one of his song with Bazar Bla in Bassics. It sounded really great. I've always wanted to hear more from this guy.

Cool. Thanks for the replies, guys!

Here's an interview worth checking out.

Here's a site mentioned in that article that has some .mp3 clips. Click the 'sound' link on the upper right.

reviving another old thread

after reviving a 6 year old thread on synth bass pedals, i decided to respond to this thread from july to make some pr for one of my fav bass players.

Björn Meyer is awesome. I saw him with Bazar Blå some two years ago, and I was blown away. The acoustic 6-string (EADGCF) sounds like a dream, and from what he told me it plays really well too.

The "keyed violin" your referring to is a nyckelharpa and a traditional swedish (don't know about the rest of scandinavia/europe) instrument. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyckelharpa

Everyone who's the slightest interested in great bass lead playing, swedish folk music, nyckelharpa or just new music should check out the link to Bazar Blås hemsida above! (Whole songs can be heard!)

Holon is one of my favorite cds right now, I love when the grooves change/intensify. The compositions and control of this ensemble are staggering.
