Count me in !

I started playing blues like 1 year ago and my gosh it's so nice. You can really FEEL the music, not just playing it. And improvisations are cool to, it contributes to learning your scales and a bunch of thing.

That was great, as usual. Nice balanced sound (the whole band); I think you once said you use a DI box now instead of a regular amp.

What? No lights for the harp player?

Happy Holidays, all!

Rick

Cheers

So here's a question for all of you... what is your preferred bass and amp to use when playing the Blues? For me, it's my Fender P-Bass and Ampeg stack.

I own a dozen basses. I use all of them for blues.
Playing the Blues is about attitude. It's about style. It's a feel.
It ain't about the equipment.

And just because you play a Blues song or two doesn't mean you're a Blues player.

I have Fender P's and J's, all with TI's; I like both, but I prefer the P's. I use an Ampeg SVT-VR and Berg NV610. I recently picked up a Mesa Walkabout which also sounds pretty sweet with the Berg.

All of that. Some gear just seems to sound "right," though.

I totally disagree... some equipment sounds better for playing the Blues. For me, passive electronics have a more vintage sound and gives a song a more authentic feel than a bass with active electronics.

I don't know, Johnny B Gaydon one of the most recorded blues bassist ever, has been using active basses and five strings for years.

I'm a bit more of a traditionalist, and to me active electronics aren't as authentic sounding.

It always makes me giggle when people tell me they can always tell, 100% of the time, just by listening, if a bass is active or passive.

Why it ranks right up there with folks who can tell, just by listening, if the player is using a maple, or rosewood fretboard.

I can usually tell.
