Bob Cranshaw with Sonny Rollins

I had the privilage of seeing Sonny Rollins tonight here in NW Arkansas. His long time bassist Bob Cranshaw was doing a great job on the low end playing what I think was a 5 string Lakland through some model of an Ampeg combo amp. He was featured on the song "In a Sentimental Mood" for several chorus's. He pulls a beautiful tone out of the bass and has impeccable timing. Sonny and the rest of the group were mighty fine too!

Cranshaw has been employed by Sonny Rollins since the 1960's. That's a superhuman feat!

My favorite jazz pairing. I've yet to catch them live, but I track down every recording and video I can.

Cranshaw's fabulous. Impeccable timing ideed. Beautiful feel.

As far as I know he's been playing an Aleva Coppolo 5 string....he could play anything and sound great though...

Crenshaw's playing on "Sonny, Please" is great, one of my favorite recent Jazz CD's.

When I saw him with Rollins at the Monterey Jazz Festival he was playing an Aleva Coppolo 5 string.
