Bob Hardy (Franz Ferdinand)

I'm surprised there's thread on this spectacular bassist! While the past albums and b-sides have had some awesome basslines (Auf Ausche, Love and Destory), The new album "Tonight" has incredible lines! Can't stop feeling has a line that i couldn't even begin to try and play. Listen starting at 24 seconds- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3Yv2Juq4gI . Live alone has an awesome line too, as does the whole album. I believe he picks entirely, after watching their live dvd. Thoughts/Comments?

I think he's a great bass player. If I recall my Franz lore correctly, he learned to play after the band wa already formed. What really stuns me is, even with two capable, experienced guitarists, his bass lines are still central to the songs. Would "Take Me Out" be anything with out the stomping simplicity? And then a little run gets put into the chorus! Excellent! And the high-up work on the intro is some of my favorite to play along with.

for those unfamiliarwith the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_9GR9kdZ3o

Some of my other favorites:

"This Fire" (Single Version-the superior version)

"Darts Of Pleasure" (one of their first songs, therefore a little more simplistic)

"Michael"

"Jacqueline"

"Outsiders"

"Turn It On"

His baselines were some of the first i ever learned. I always wondered if he actually wrote them though. given his backstory

I believe at first he had help from Alex Kapranos, I don't know by what process they're written now.

Some trivia:

Bob Hardy is a Synesthesist (he can see smells)

He is currently writing a graphic novel about the development of the viaduct (a type of bridge).

He was a bass technique consultant on the game "Rock Band."

Bob Hardy was the reason I started playing bass, I always thought his lines were fun and pretty cool.

This almost makes me wish I hadn't started playing before Franz came out!

Meh, he's not that great a player. He competant for an indie band, but not exactly a wonderful bassist.
