Bootsy kicked out of NAMM?

Sign in to disble this ad
I heard from a reliable source that Bootsy was playing too loud and was asked to leave. Apparently the decibel police told him to turn down and when he didn't they unplugged him and had him escorted out of the building. I am getting this second hand so take it for what its worth! Does anyone have any additional information?

Loudest thing I ever saw live was a Bootsy bass solo in a smallish club.

I'd believe it.

The NAMM noise police are notorious for being decibel sticklers.
Most, if not all of them are not musicians and are employed through the convention center. Therefore seem to take a sick pleasure keeping all of the "crazy musicians" at bay with threats of confiscating their badges. This reeks havoc on trying to demo a tube amp, or any other powerful bass amp for that matter.

Down with them, up with the decibels I say!

It came from a very reliable source who is quite a well known bassist himself. I just don't have permission to quote him directly as I have not communicated with him since the first e-mail.

I hope that's true.

Does this decibel-policing apply all over NAMM?
Every time I watch a video of someone giving a talk, there's always the annoyingly loud sound of somebody just noodling around, playing (?!& in a nearby room and nearly drowning out the speaker.

Heaven forbid someone 'test driving' a bass in the 'real world', and not taking any consideration of the people at home on their lounges having a 'virtual experience' watching TV.

NAMM seemed louder and less restricted this year. I was surprised at some of the people playing and that the "police" didn't show up.... which was a good thing IMO.

I saw Bootsy at the end of the show on Saturday so when was he supposedly ejected?

I have a T-Shirt that says that. I wear it at gigs while I'm using in-ear monitors. Does that make me a hypocrite?

I have no idea as to the truth of the boot of Bootsy, but I do wonder what would happen if there were no decibel restrictions/limits at NAMM, and every booth and display took the liberty of banging or booming as loud as they wanted, all at once.

That would be fun to do business in a place like that, you know, have a meaningful conversation with a rep about their product while the Who Live at Leeds was taking place in the background.

Something doesn't seem quite right with this. I saw Bootsy doing an autograph session Friday and saw him again hanging out at Warwick on Saturday. I saw the small stage/platform area there and though I didn't see him play, from what I saw on display there, it most likely wouldn't be any louder than some of the other booths I saw. Ever been in the drum area at NAMM? Maybe part of the story is missing :/ ?

I went to a Bass Day in NYC in the late 90's where such a thing happened. It was ugly. Dozens of high powered rigs and enough slapping to make just about anyone sick of it. I didn't bring hearing protection because It didn't dawn on me that that many people would play simultaneously with zero restraint.

I don't know what happened with Bootsy, I will say I have serious doubts that he got thrown out... unless he wanted to.
