I saw Boris at the Marquis Theater in Denver, CO last night... it was two hours of epic sound! Red Sparowes opened, and they were in top form. Boris's albums get frequent rotation, and I had heard that they put on a good live show, but they exceeded all expectations. Along with all the brutality of volume and distortion, they always balanced it with beautiful harmonies.

Takeshi rocked his ric-styled First Act doubleneck. He had an ampeg 810 w/ a svt 2 and a svt classic on top. he also had two 412's w/ 2 sunn model t's. aside from knowing that the bass went into at least one ampeg (was the other a backup?), i have know idea how his setup worked. also, his pedalboard (as well as the rest of the bands') was ridiculous! i'm talking 3 boards a piece! Their were lots of ZVex boxes, and lots of unmarked pedals.

It seemed that they all ran several amps (Waka had an Orange stack and a Sunn atop an 810, Michio Kurihara had two Fender Twins) and would engage them at different times to create huge dynamic leaps, though I could be wrong, esp. when considering their ridiculous pedalboards. Both Wata and Michio Kurihara had tape echo boxes like echoplexes or space echos.

Does anyone have any insight into how they get their sounds from their gear? General info about the band?

Magic.

Haha, i've seen them twice now, but it's been way too loud for me to get up super close to really investigate the hows//whys of their set-ups.

Never seen them live, so can't help you there. But I dig them, so +1.

Hello, fellow denverite. My old band played at the marquis many times. Great little venue. My friend went to that same show and said it was incredible.
