Has anybody around here seen the commercial for the Bowflex home gym thing where the guy promoting it talks about how he is in a rock band? He mentions "I'm in a rock band" a few times. For some reason I think that guy is kind of a joke. I dont know why either. I actually feel kind of bad I think that way. Does anyone else think that too?

Quite possibly just an actor made to look like a testimonial.

I also remember that thread. Apparently it was confirmed that the 'bass player' is exactly what he said he was. But the BowFlex commericial was probably shot 2 years ago by now.

I haven't read the previous thread nor seen/heard their band live but from what I could tell in the commercial it's pretty convincing... Meaning, you can tell whether someone is pretending to play - finger/hand movements, timing, etc. And I thought he was rocking out like he was really playing. IMO.

By fake, I mean (and this is going back a bit for you late 20's, early 30's cats) the shows California Dreams and Saved by the Bell.... Yes, I watched them (the chicks were hot, haha) now those guys are obviously pretending to play. I can't believe I just typed that. Haha.

Hey, there's nothin' wrong with being a "paid endorser" and it certainly doesn't make you a tool.

As musicians, I think we're all keenly aware that when opportunities present themselves, you have to be prepared to pounce on them. Seems like this fellow bassist - "Mike" may have done just that.

More power to him.

I know him. Very very nice, down to earth guy. Actually seems to be kind of embarassed about all the attention, aside from the fact it really helped book more shows for his band.

And as far as whether he's playing for real or not, he is. They used a popular Harrisonburg, VA venue (that we've played at and are playing on the 30th of this month) and did the shoot before a show they had that night, if I remember correctly. The band is Torque, fronted by Nathan Neff. All of them are really nice guys, and fairly talented. I'm trying to find a link to the band right now.

It does if the only reason you're endorsing something is because you're getting paid to.
