I don't particularly like Jeff Berlin as a player, and even though I really think that him and Sheenan and Hamm is not up my tree...

Jeff Berlin certainly has his right to speak, and I think that it's his good intentions not to provoke TB into some sort of internet flame war; Jeff Berlin is being the bigger man. I respect that, and I also share a lot of his views on bass education. It's not enough to know patterns, you have to know music.

Also: Mike Watt, Flea and Les Claypool wanted to do ZZ Tops' Tres Hombres all on bass back in the early ninties. Three bass' ain't as novel every bass player thinks.

I really enjoyed that.
I think he made a lot of sense in his argument for music education.

IMO it would have been better to wait until after eating to conduct the interview.

I also think it is regrettable that he no longer posts here, and a "me and them" kind of attitude has developed between him and TB.

I'm not sure (correct me if I'm wrong), but I think his exit from TB resulted in the flame wars that developed in threads that he was involved in. If I am right then it is a sad thing that people cant exchange views, no matter how different these may be, in a diplomatic way.

The Black times 3 comment was boarder line but having met Jeff and knowing his sense of humor I give him a pass, everything else he said made sense about education

Me and them is Berlins mantra. He would not survive without his enemies. Check it out for yourself. Its: they do not understand and/or they treat me bad, all the time. His targets are other schools, other bass players and his favourite pet Talkbass.

Soundwise he's one of the most annoying bassists out there, IMO.
I hate this chorus-all-the-time tone.
His comments on education and music education, however, make a lot of sense to me.
In fact, if I had the money, I'd risk a trip to Florida.
